It might be comfortable and functional but does it reflect your personality? Does it make you feel happy and inspired?

If your home doesn’t bring you joy every time you walk through the front door, fear not, you can inject some pizzazz without too much difficulty.

And for those working on a new build, putting your own stamp on the place is just as important as making it practical.

Gone are the days of decorating to cater for trends and fads. Let’s face it, not many people are in a position to update their decor to suit the seasons. But seasonal trends can provide some inspiration particularly when it comes to adding details.

If you’re wanting to breathe some new life into your home or are planning the look of an upcoming new project, here’s some guiding light.

TEXTURE

If you want a home that is truly interesting and timeless, introduce texture. Not just in accessories and furnishings, although these provide the perfect opportunity to really play with different surfaces and materials.

Also try to add texture with your fittings and fixtures and don’t be afraid to mix it up or think outside the box. There is no need to match everything together.

EXPRESS YOURSELF

Use art, both functional and non-functional, to really make your home unique.

Look for lights that are as sculptural and decorative as they are functional.

Think about your bedding and how it can be used to paint a picture. The same applies to seating, window treatments and floor coverings.

Don’t be afraid to choose what really, truly speaks to you because when you do this, you are more likely to love your choices for longer.
